Our Program
From Study to Pilgrimage: How Kingdom Journey Takes Shape
The Kingdom Journey program is designed to unfold during the critical 9th and 10th grade years, providing both spiritual growth and practical, secular benefits. Through community service and learning opportunities, students often fulfill school-required service hours while participating in experiences that enhance college applications and future career interviews.
The program can be structured in various ways, but the most common approach includes the following elements:
Meeting Frequency: Sessions are typically held weekly for 60 minutes or every other week for 90 minutes, ensuring consistent engagement.
Collaborative Format: Encourage active collaboration among participants. Set up an open circle-style seating arrangement with facilitators guiding discussions, rather than a traditional classroom setup with teachers and desks.
Bible Selection: Use either a Canonical or “One Year Reader” Bible to maintain the uninterrupted story arc. Chronological or thematic versions are not recommended, as they may disrupt the flow of the Bible's narrative.
Additional Learning: Supplement Bible study with related subjects, such as visiting other houses of worship, studying geography, the Crusades, modern history, and other points of interest tied to the pilgrimage itinerary. This broadens students’ understanding of the material in context.
Timing Considerations: Avoid scheduling sessions during the summer, school breaks, final exams, or major Student Ministry events to maintain focus and ensure high attendance throughout the program.
By structuring the program in this flexible and immersive way, students can not only deepen their faith but also gain valuable real-world experiences.
Additional Material: Your denomination may have existing study materials you want to use. The United Methodist Church, as an example, has a Youth edition of its Disciple curriculum.
Hosts are free to plan and conduct Kingdom Journey as they feel led. More details on exactly how to structure your Kingdom Journey are available on request.
